From our guest guidebook

What to put in your fly box.

Five seasonal guides with patterns, hook sizes, and practical starting points.

Also in the box: year-round streamers & alternatives

Our guidebook keeps these options alongside the seasonal nymphs and dries, especially for a change in light or water clarity.

Year-round options from the guest guide
FlyHook sizeA reason to try it
Sculpin4–8A streamer presentation around rock, bank, or ledge edges.
Woolly Bugger6–10Stained water or cloud cover; experiment with a retrieve or dead drift.
San Juan / Squirmy Worm10–12An alternative when rain or releases have changed water clarity.
Mini Leech12–14A change from small nymphs when there is stain or little visible insect activity.

The guide’s streamer baseline is a 7.5–9-foot 1X–3X leader tied directly to the fly. A Mini Leech and worm are another suggested pairing where multi-fly rigs are permitted. Check current water-specific tackle rules, including hook count and any restrictions affecting your fly’s materials, before using these options.
